1. a 3d modeler, if possible with texturing and animation exporting capabilities: i.e. 3dsmax, Maya, Lightwave (expensive), Milkshape3d, Anim8or, Wings3d, blender (low cost-free), Unwrap3d(for uv mapping).

2. A C++ compatible compiler: MSVC6/7, Borland C++, MinGW, DevC++. You'll find options for every taste here, from cheap, to free to expensive ones. Just make sure it's been tested to work with Irrlicht.

3. In case you know level mapping for Quake3, a good level editor capable of exporting a Q3 bsp is also a good adddon to the list. For non commercial use I'd suggest Gtkradiant; it's got a great lightmapper . For commercial purposes try Quake Army Knife (QUARK). Its' free and there are some free versions of Q3map to compile the maps (althought I've never achieved to compile a bsp with this). Anyway, be careful with the legal issues implied in the use of such tools.

4. Some audio editing software: although Irrlicht has got no audio support yet, it would also be good if you get used to do some audio editing for your apps. Audacity is a free opensource audio editor and a very good one, Goldwave, SoundForge, Cooledit, etc etc etc. From free to expensive ones.

ok, those r my 2cs

and yes, if you do a search in the forum, this topic has been discussed several times.

BTW, @ acki, the man in your avatar is Frank Lloyd Wright, right? :D

@ Acki: he's holding a mushroom, and yup, I guess many people won't like him for what he created. What do you admire him for?

and yup, we're getting wayyyyyyyyy off topic. Shall we continue this chat in the "off topic" forum?

Acki, reply over there, :D
