Trying to choose engine.

Post by silverfire »

Wow I've been looking all over at engines.....

I am pretty solid on IRRLICHT. I just have one question.

Before Irrlicht I was looking at Raydium and I really liked this picture(albeit I would want to improve a few things but I liked the feel).

Is Irrlicht capable of better?

Thanks

Definetly! :D
But then again the look all depends on the 3D Content u are gonna be using.

Irrlicht is capable of whatever you make it do - it can draw handle all the complex geometry, textures, and shaders any other engine can. The sad thing is that the examples on the web page are a bit old and don't show what Irrlicht can do. It's important to keep in mind that the quality of what you use (models/textures) has nothing to do with the engine itself.

Cool. :D I've always been impressed by the amount the Irrlicht community helps each other out.

If this is a true statement,

"The sad thing is that the examples on the web page are a bit old and don't show what Irrlicht can do."

Do you have any suggestion for a new comer to Irrlicht, and 3D programming in general.

I would say that the irrlicht tutorials are a good place to start, though you would want to use the ones included in the SDK download as they are a tad bit up to date. They really cover the basics of irrlicht, its just that the resources they use merely demonstrate the functionality of irrlicht without showing what the engine can really handle. For that you should have a look at some of the projects in the Project Announcements forum, for example XEffects.
