My homepage design question

Post by kazymjir »

Hi!

I've got a little question to you.
What do you think about design of my homepage? http://kazymjir.org/
I like this old 90" ascii design, but dunno how about others :D
What would be better, my current design or something like Virion blog? (http://blog.zhieng.com/)

I found it hard to focus on the words. I like it otherwise :)

I like yours. The colors remind me of the "good old times" (although I never had a green-black monitor ;) ). And I think that it's OK not to use too many pictures, at least not for the main layout. Add some in the actual content. I like the design.

I recant my readability issue. sleepiness and small text was to blame.... thats the issue with a 1080p monitor.... all the text becomes small and hard to read unless you zoom in or move closer, or have a larger monitor... I like the design and use of javascript for things, once there is some more content it will be a nice looking site. I don't know how well the pictures will blend in the the design though they will be highly contrasted from the background I think (contrasted may not be the right word.... they will jump out a lot).

Thanks a lot for tips!

For now there is almost no content due to that i was wondering about my design. But I see you like it, so i make some corrections, add comments and rss and will start to adding content :)

I will try to change some colors (i don't like link colors like in projects section, too bright for me) and will modify a bit fonts to be correctly displayed on all monitors - big and small (as Insomniacp said).

Thanks alot again, I will post here when I finish all corrections :)

I had also green-black monitor (for my C64), i very miss it (nostalgia mode). Hence the idea for this design is from my old monitor :)

We had some amber monitor with horrible reaction time. Playing a game always cause a lot of motion blur ;)

Hi, Aek.

Depend on what you want to "show" and give as impression when we look at your site...

Virion blog look like an artist site, yours look more like a programmer site.
If you want to show that you are programming graphics, then you should try to put a more graphical touch over it (Matrix style perhaps), once your blog is running then you could put screenshots of shaders or other thing you programmed. You could even take a screenshot of your current design and pivot it in 3D (Perspective effect). I would also make it a little bigger.

The impression the site give me now, is that you are a non-graphic programmer (database, application, etc), and come from the CRT era... Is that really represent you? Or is that the impression you want to give to the visitors?

Hi, Christianclavet,
thanks for your comments.

Yes, I am more than database, application programmer than a graphics.
Graphics is one of my lot of interests.
My homepage is not something like "my visit card in Internet", but only informational page for friends and other people. About projects I made, articles and my life (blog).
I want to my page have a maximum readability, without any needless things (like graphics).

In close future I'll make second web page. I am also web developer and want to find some customers interested in buying web pages on order.
This site will have completely different design that my homepage. Pictures, beautiful stylish design, to show that I am not non-graphic programmer from CRT era, but creative mind, who making beautiful webpages ;)

Ok, I changed colors and now text should be in same size on all display resolutions.

I have some more questions:
- add comments system under news/blog/projects/articles ?
- add visits counter on news/blog/projects/articles (for each article, project etc)?
- what can I add more (that will be usable for visitors) ?
