sigh... why do ppl always try ot share they beautiful ideas? everyone have ideas. if idea would be enough for making game, the world itself would become a perfect game.galaxy366 wrote:ok , i dont know if this topic will stay up because i have no doc or concept yet, is there not a place where you can post game ideas? without showing work?

Oh... sorry... my bad... I truly regret to say this, but... I just wanted to join his team.... but somehow he overlooked my application... that's kinda sad... his project is so unique, so inventive, and so entertaining... just imagine it! He has some experience with photoshop! And also with simple concepts! Futhermore, he has a plan! And last, but not least he has installed code blocks with irrlicht 1.7.1! It pwns! Really!
This thread should either return to being a somewhat decent and relevant conversation instead of random bickering and sarcasm, or it should be locked/deleted.
Here's my shot at it:
galaxy366, I'd like to say the following:
Here's my shot at it:
galaxy366, I'd like to say the following:
- Start small. What you have in mind is a massive undertaking. You wan something "like sins of a solar empire, but then much deeper?" There's nothing wrong with dreaming and coming up with ideas, but do you realize that retail games like SoaSE take years to develop with entire teams of paid developers who are masters of their craft? Watch the credits on any modern game and count how many names there are.
- Limit your scope. You want an entire procedurally generated universe? Do you have any idea how massive that is? Even if you limited it to a single galaxy, it would take gigabytes, if not terabytes to save all of that information. The code to generate it, access it, and present it in some useful way in a game could take years to create in and of itself.
- Why should we care? Like others have said, people jump on ideas because they find some promise in them. Now, there are people willing to work on projects for no monetary compensation (see the thousands of open-source, community driven projects out there), but they have to buy into what you're trying to do. You don't even have ideas, and you're expecting other people to jump on board? It's a bit naive.
And, most importantly in my opinion, - Understand what you're asking. The fact that you're suggesting something like this means you have no clue how much it would take to do anything you're asking. Get some experience yourself in something (be it coding, modelling, whatever) to realize how much time it takes to do much, much simpler tasks.

Slavik262 is right.
Every time someone starts telling you all before the end of the beginning, not ending ever.
- First, if I were you, I would try to learn something besides "give orders" when a team with basic knowledge is created.
- Second, what you want to do, is very large for a "mini" game developer with no prior knowledge. Start by creating some minigame or something and then imagine something bigger.
- When you want to create a team, first display any images or concepts of what it wants to implement, and review applications with a magnifying glass, there is much fool who claims to be modeling, with just a square room with models.
- And if someone has the programs mentioned in the first post, you should start saving to pay people who use these programs legally if you accept them in your project, because they are professionals who use that program for benefit.
It is not discouraged, but think about it better before wasting time and losing it to others.

I would not have on my team to someone that your request is "OH, I KNOW! I KNOW! PICK ME! ME! OH, PICK ME! I KNOW! ME, ME, ME !!!!", Without any example.
On this forum there are many people very skilled in "Irrlicht", but none would get into a project so suicidal.

im so sorry people for not responding , i was bussy with school, in the time sins my last comment i changed many things, instead of having this big game, i made it smaller to a game like homeworld,
instead of making vessels with shipyard, you order them through a build menu and when the are finish you select the jump in button, something like that, and then select the place where the enter,
its more action based then homeworld.
but i still dont know what for name and engine, UDK is free, and has some great power, but the thing is i dont know anything of both engines.
i do want to learn for game design but that will be 5 years away or something,
isnt it possible that i make a story and some drawing only?
but stilll the project will be free, so no payment.
