Haha, a spambot trying to convince admins of not being a spambot.

The strange ones usually live until they start adding the spam (often a few days later). We try to be certain not to accidentally delete strange users, but it's getting harder. And I can't say I like any kind of spam-bot.

While we're talking about them, what can be done to improve spam bot detection? I know no system is waterproof, but it seems that a lot of bots are getting in as of late. Have you guys had any thoughts recently about how to better deal with them?

Actually, since the last huge spam flood I did not see too many spam bots anymore. It's usually that they post about 10 entries per day, but I did not remove any in the last week or so. Maybe the changes I made (reducing posting frequency etc) helped, although it's also a little annoying for me now - I often get a message not to post that fast :?

Hm, I wonder how many spams we really get each day. Maybe each admin should count for a week how many he removes :-)
I know we all do that as we occasionally try to delete spam at the same time. And yeah - I also run in the new restriction occasionally, but it seemed to have helped. I think caught at least 1 or 2 runaway spammers since then before they could do more than a handful of posts (then again there's some that stop at 5 or 6 spams anyway..)

The only way to defeat things like this is to prevent people from posting links until they've reached a certain number of posts. :(

Evil service :-( But I guess someone can also use Amazons mechanical turk for such tasks.

What I really hate are bots that copy&paste technical texts from stackoverflow in first posts which nearly make sense. Had one like that yesterday and it's really hard to see the difference between those and a new user that is just somewhat confused.
