Topic seem dying a little... :(

So i'll start new topic, what was your day today?
Today I spent whole day on designing logo for one of my customers.
It's band plays on weddings, dances etc, also providing photographing, video recording and sound hardware.
They company is named "FOCUS" (in full name: Music Agency Focus).
Everything is ok, but completely dunno why they name their company "FOCUS".
Also, I am not sure that they even know what FOCUS mean
Had some troubles with designing logo (also, I was was designing logo for a first time, before only webpages) because name of their company have completely no connection to things which their company do.
But finally, after 9 work-hours I made some propositions and sent them to give opinion.

And how your day passed?

http://www.phpro.org/articles/How-To-Be ... -Guru.html

Wtf is this? :?
I hope this is only a joke.
This guy is writing about how to become a "guru programmer".
I am opening that link and what see?
Not showing code, using "buzzwords", ...
It's more tutorial how to become a "lame 12 years old coder who think is experienced software enginner" than "guru programmer" :D

This reminds me of the "anti-coding-guidelines" I once got by eMail (don't have them anymore :( ). These have shown a way to make you essential for a project you're working on. I just remember some of those:
1. make huge methods
2. always give speaking names for your local variables (i.e. numberOfBytesRead)
3. reuse you variables from point 2 in your methods from point 1 once their original use has been done because of memory/performance reasons
4. make functions/methods with names similar to each other that do different things. For the differences in the name prefer the letters "l" (lower case of "L") and "I" (upper case of "i") or "1")
...
In other words: this article is complete nonsense. Even if you could be able to convince some not that experienced programmers from being a Guru sooner or later someone will notice that you are just an idiot ;)

Exactly.

Btw, it remembers me one, really good text about how to become good programmer.
It's "How to become a Hacker", by Eric Raymond:
http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/hacker-howto.html

esr did really great job writing this

And again thread is dying

Try to start new topics interesting topics here, ask people for something, or maybe show your recent projects which you are proud of... anything!
We will make more new friends and make closer to community.
We know each other here, in our community, only as programmers.
Let's know each other more personally :)

So, Ill start new topic.
Do you play any instruments, maybe sing?
I am playing acoustic/classic guitar, also singing for a bit before sold hardware (needed money).
My fav songs on guitar are:
Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin,
The Unforgiven by Metallica,
Mama Said by Metallica,
Something in the Way by Nirvana.
And more, but forgot :)

I can show you one of my recording...
on one alcohol-libation my friend asked me to record something...
he know that I sing mostly old rock ballads... so I made him joke and singed Madonna
Heres link to recording:
http://w246.wrzuta.pl/audio/1cvfnKhHdzD/d

So, do you play any instrument, or sing?

I sing and play guitar in band, though things are moving slowly atm. Anyway, songs and a couple of live videos can be found HERE

Some time ago I made a quick recording of a song I wanted to play with my new band and to give them some ideas. It's in Estonian, so it probably sounds a little weird to you. Also it's incomplete .. link .. music is done in Guitar Pro. I hope my high pitched singing voice doesn't scare you :D
Most people find it to be quite unique. I don't speak in that tone obviously.

kazymjir, nice song :)

Nice Eigen!
I like music your band play. Downloaded some songs :)
You can sing really high, what is your scale?

I have some materials from my friends band, here is video of lead guitarist mad solo:
http://vimeo.com/17782380

and song that their lead guitarist composed:
http://w613.wrzuta.pl/audio/8DdbsXr9vkQ/for_eigen
(ps: this is not full song, just mix of his ideas)

They play really good, but still have no vocalist.
Also, last time they lost their second guitarist (because of drugs - I said him acid is better, but he went to opioids :( ).

I am sad that I cannot show you any of my "normal" recordings, don't have anything on HDD, and after I sold my interface and microphone I don't have hardware to record :(
But I think guys from band that I sent you link can have some recording when we was recording some stuff together, I'll ask them.

OK, this seems to be a topic for me. I play Bass, and I did already play in a couple of bands, from most of which you can download some songs (all pages except for one are in German, sorry for that):

- my first band: "The wranglers": http://wranglers.bulletbyte.de/
- number two: "clochard": http://clochard.bulletbyte.de/
- the current band: "killing cockroaches: http://killing-cockroaches.de/
- and a little side project I did some years ago: A.D.O.N.I.S. hates me: http://adonishatesme.bulletbyte.de/ (just two mp3s for a musical forum I am member of) or http://www.myspace.com/adonishatesme/music for some more songs

I did a lot of the recording on these pages (just the Wranglers stuff and all but the "last breath" "album" by clochard were recorded in studios).

This is one really great hobby, lot of fun. But it seems that we (killing cockroaches) are just unable to make singers stick with us, so we're currently trying to go instrumental :D

Nice Brainsaw! :)

I also wanted to play guitar some time ago (even when i was buying interface for microphone, specially choosed one with guitar input: http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/FastTrack.html).
Unfortunately, every time I find some nice guitar on internet auctions, someone overbids me in last moments :(
At first I wanted Epiphone EB-0 (Gibson clone) for start, later collected some money and I lost 2 auctions of Epiphone Thunderbird (this black one) :(

Now, I sold my interface, microphone and other music stuff (i left only classical and acoustic guitar, i love those instruments too much :D).
I had little depression (no motivation to code), and I said to myself that I am programmer and that is what I'll do to end of my life, no other things :)
