help with dust in my computer

Post by ChaiRuiPeng »

hi forum.

there is too much dust in where i live, and i have to clean my computer fan, gpu fan and other stuff so many times to prevent overheating, which nearly happened one time but my computers like most shut down auto before it could get to hot.

it is hot and dusty where i live. is there anyhting i could do to prevent or at least slow down the buildup of dust on my hardware? it gets bothersome having to clean it out every 2 and a half weeks.

thanks

Common problem where I live... Africa.
Dust, Dust, Dust and where i am, a salty 90% humidity sea breeze.
Personally I have more fans blowing out of my case than in, to make sure nothing remains inside.
Then make sure airflow paths aren't obstructed by that brilliant cable layout. (Use a smoke bomb to check airflow) :D
After all that I get by with cleaning once every three months.

you could buy a filter and place it in front of the fans that blow in (outside of case). This shouldn't obstruct air flow too much and will hopefully catch all the dust before it enters. Much easier to clean or replace it since its outside as well.

I have experience with filters, not very good if your room temp reaches 40Celcius :(
They rather heavily reduce rate of air inflow.

What about creating vacuum in your room and using space suits? :)

i was thinking maybe one of those static things that i could place at the entrance of my fan, but not touching. the ones that have all the dust stick to it.

entity, did you think about what you just wrote?
Things still get hot in a vacumn... (basic thermal physics?)

On the other hand, one of my ridiculous(but possible)idea's, make a closed air cooling system.(=Insane length's of pipe connecting in and out fans allowing for air to loose heat on the way through the tube and then return) (Its gotta be _BIG_! to work)

Vacuum = no dust to worry about... though the cooling might get a bit difficult, as heat doesn't transport(i suppose it's not the best word) in vacuum, yeah.
I like your idea though, it would look soooo cool and neat :)

>.< if i had a vacuum it would get EVENT HOTTTETRR!!RWEFDSHGWGFADSDFSAGFDFBSGB

GAH!!! cant you remember? it would get even hotter and melt down my hardware before causing an explosion because the heat would not disperse AT ALL.

anyways... :)

i have some precision welding tools and know a thing or two about liquid cooling systems from spending so many years with baba goiung to his jobs.

i will just make my case into a mini refrigerator. :D

Take your tower off the floor if it is. I have found that when my tower was on the floor I had to clean it a couple times a year but now that it is on my desk I get by with once a year (spring cleaning) and it isn't that bad in it.

Here's another one, drown your whole PC in a tub of mineral oil!
And don't bother trying to change any card later...

yes i've already heard about liquid cooling using mineral oil. however it seems messy and i've heard the oil can creep up the wires like mouse and keyboard.

plus it would cost me less to make my own liquid cooling system than to buy wireless everthing and submerge it in an aquarium tank of mineral oil
