Huh, I thought that was just a joke some peeps were playing. ;)

And in other news, I got 86.

True, I was thinking about the same Grumpy.

Btw, damn, I am looking at the Projects section, watching screenshots, an I am getting so sad that I don't have time to do something with Irrlicht.
Lot of work in school, same in job, I also want to make my website to gain more freelance work.
In incoming vacations I have plans to make Zend certification (PHP 5.3), so there is no any free time for Irrlicht :(

You guys are so lucky that you have so much time to play with Irrlicht :)

yeah .. welll, not always true... i am doing full time school until this summer begins. then i am getting a job and hoping to move out into my own apartment and have some source of income.

i'm always busy. either programming, school work, sleeping or eating. hardly have much time for anything else. but hope that changes soon.

That brings up an interesting idea. Does anybody know of anyone who has a job or makes a living doing Irrlicht? That would be just awesome.

i've seen a few post here on the forums every now and then. small projects that use irrlicht and sell decently, however their posters (the devs) don't post too much, probably too busy working.

@ChaiRuiPeng,
Best wishes for getting own apartment and job!
It's really big milestone in project called Human Life.

About Irrlicht....
Maybe I'll port Irrlicht to PHP lol
I saw project called PHP-GTK where you can create GUIs in GTK using PHP language on local computer, so there should be a way to create Irrlicht port to PHP.
Ohhh thank you Mr. Hoffman for those weird ideas

I wouldn't count on support for any other renderer besides irrlicht's software renderer in PHP, I would be genuinely amazed if you could get DirectX or OpenGL to run completely in a PHP environment :D

By the way, since this is a thread about all kinds of randomness, I want to post a difficult issue which I could use some advice on

Maybe some of you know about the game engine project I'm currently working on, if not, now you know
The thing is that the engine itself is functioning exactly the way I want it to right now (ie. I can follow my development schedule as planned, with some really amazing results), but I don't know what I'm actually going to write with it (I know which direction I want to take, I just don't know anything else besides that)
I'm looking for (concept) artists or creative people who aren't afraid to let their imaginations go wild while creating their art or stories, and who can inspire me to design something awesome in a collaborative effort (I myself am a street artist, you can find sketches and works at http://www.flickr.com/photos/rane_la/ , but this kind of art is really far away from decent concept art)
So if anyone wants to help me out here, feel free to send me a message :D

@Radikalizm
that's funny, my situation has been reversed for the past x years :P
i always had a gajillion game ideas but not enough skill with programming or game development so I never got anywhere... until I picked up C++ and learned all the ins and outs of game deving, thanks mainly to experimenting with irrlicht and tearing it apart.
I'm still not an expert but my engine is now at a level where I can release commercial games with it on iOS, probably on PC too if I spent more time beefing up the assets

Just do what everyone else does around here and try making a simple game with whatever assets you can find or buy (if you have money to throw at it).
I might have helped but I'm really tied up at the moment with my own projects

What are the strengths of your engine?
Maybe you could create a clone of Gran Tourismo or something - a racing game with very realistic looking racing cars.

Or a sci-fi FPS like Halo/Quake/Unreal/etc

Lots of games out there you can use for inspiration, but the real question is:
can you get high quality copyright-free assets that you need to build a profitable game?

Good luck

I certainly don't have enough money to buy assets right now, and that's not really a problem since I can certainly manage to make these myself (and I have friends who are more talented than me in this area :D )
I go out a lot with my camera to set up a decent texture library, I've got all equipment needed to make high-quality audio recordings, and I'm somewhat ok with max and blender (although I have friends who are much better at them, but the things they create aren't really suited for games), and I'm willing to learn

My engine is pretty flexible right now, but I'm planning to steer it in the direction of FPS and RPG games, although I think other genres would be possible in the end since I allow for a lot of custom plugins, but it's still far from finished. I'm getting to the point right now where it should be possible to host the foundations of a game, but it's still missing some crucial features to be really able to complete it

I might have been a bit too enthusiastic in my previous post though, I'm not looking for someone to create a game storyline for me, I just need an artist who can 'inspire' me with some sketches/paintings he/she has already done, or who I can bounce some ideas off, and out of that we could deduce a decent storyline (I definitely don't want to steal someone else's idea for a game)
I want to be able to completely support the storyline behind the game I'm going to write eventually, and now is a good time to start thinking about it, there still is some technical stuff that needs to be done, but that's rather trivial since I already know how it's going to be laid out and implemented

Maybe I should take the plunge and set up a development blog somewhere, I didn't want to reveal too much about my project just yet because I didn't want to hype it (it's still just an engine, nothing more, nothing less), but it might be a good idea now to show the game development community what it can do so I can create some interest
