it is not "hacking"
real hacking requires intelligence. if you are referring to "lulzsec", they are just a group of kids that are out of school for the summer and happened to get their hands on some DDoS software and have nothing productive to do.
EDIT: just tough it out, stay low and hope your site, if you have one and it's popular, doesn't get targeted. it'll pass sooner or later. also we shouldn't complain since that is what they feed off of.

yeah... script kiddies are fun to watch. Chances are they were dumb and all of their ip and computer information was logged and the ISP's are back-tracing their data to their homes and will shortly arrest them. Most of them are dumb and don't go to a public location and public wifi to hack from so they are easily caught. Basically if you own a server keep it up to date and keep your fire wall setting stingy. If you make any applications or web sites make sure you read up on the security of it to make sure your code isn't easily compromised. Anyway I know more about this than I should and one day plan on implementing an automatic back hacking system into my network to protect my servers and to teach little script kiddies a harsh lesson.

I would dedicate an entire server to automatically hack the source of the intrusion. This would be combined with current security measures but primarily be used to personally prevent any future attacks by this person and to acquire as much data about them as possible to file a lawsuit and have then arrested. Basically when a hack is detected it would gather all the ip and port information from it and then proceed to hack into that ip automatically. This should alert them instantly and make them stop hacking or atleast shift their focus back to their own computer.

yes, though damage would not be caused until its determined this is the assailant. For the botnet just kill and delete the program thats attacking. Thats why it will collect data primarily then destroy it if there is sufficient data saying this person is hacking. Also I don't know of any botnet type attack that actually hacks and doesn't just disrupt communication... I was refering more to the hacker trying to get in and steal data or delete things not a botnet... Though it would work on them as well if its designed to handle that case as stated above. It would actually be doing the world a service

yes, that is a big problem. i really think it is up to the end user to protect themselves. prevention is better than treatment. also i think it will take more than just the info user of the attackers, if you even get it, you would have to link them somehow to a crime. also as hendu said, a lot of these attacks are automated from a host machine via a parasitic bot. it's hard to seperate baddy from goody.hendu wrote:What if it's a botnet, you'd attack unknowing users then.

Yes, of course these incidents are not hacks, but cracks/script-kiddies went bananas.kazymjir wrote:Not got hacked, but cracked.
Hackers have a code of ethics.

Computers are as smart as you make them. They are also very good and long tedious work such as analyzing things. It isn't far fetched to think that a hack can be automated these days considering how much technology has advanced. I wonder, why do you say it is not possible? Script kiddies "hack" all the time without knowing what they are doing, why can a program not be written that is smarter than the average script kiddie?(not very hard to do imo).
