Surround sound won't work

I have these speakers: http://www.cyberacoustics.com/retail/Gaming/CA-5402 I never tried to test surround sound until just recently. They're correctly plugged in to my AM3 Gigabyte UD3 motherboard which has all the ports for them, but I'm only getting stereo sound when I try to play surround sound files. I applied driver updates from the Gigabyte website for my board. Nothing I've tried works. Is there any sort of Dolby 5.1 drivers that need to be installed aside from the Gigabyte "Realtek Function driver for Realtek Azalia audio chip (Including Microsoft UAA Driver in English edition)" thing?

Are you tried with a DVD movie with surround enabled? (maybe it just the file wich don't work.. really don't know since i don't have surround XD).

I don't know..
I got 5.1 surround sound (soundblaster live! 5.1 -97.... that would be ANCIENT (though it works just GREAT, soundblaster has always worked for me

)

I assume that you are using Windows OS. Did you set Windows Sound Manager to use 5.1? By default it's set to stereo.

I didn't know you had to do that. I'll try and enable it when I can get to my desktop.
