MiniGames or FullGames?

Post by TheMrCerebro »

That is the question...,
if you had your hands on basic knowledge of programming but do not belong to any group of development and months do not want to throw earth...,
would you choose to create a mini game or full game?

Exactly.

If you know you can finish a full game, than why not. But if you doubt it, you should probably go for a simpler game, or a simpler version of w/e you'd want to build and expand it as it goes.

It's not bad starting with smaller games - it allows you get familiar with tools, getting a good deal of re-usable sources, getting experience with releasing, distributing etc.

I do not mean me, I say if you have preferred to make a full game or a mini game just for fun.
I would create games, when I could think of a simple game that could be done in no time.

Features:

MiniGames
  • - Small size
    - Do not need a powerful computer to play
    - Simple story (Some do not)
    - Window mode (even from the website)
FullGames
  • - Intermediate size tor over 100 mb ( or 700 mb,4 gb,12 gb,..)
    - It requires more than a Pentium 166 mhz
    - Complex history
    - Full screen
    - more...

Oh, well then I would say that I'd prefer making mini games. Cause that's what I'm doing right now. I'm creating java breakout game just so I could get a bit of experience with java.
Creating a full game with story and nice assets would be quite a challenge for one man, but it's quite possible.

i think that a full game done by 1 person will still look much more like a minigame. What game will be considered "full game" to you (so enough level of detail)?

well yes, and I frankly don't think I'll succeed with making it a full game, but I am doing it for the learning, who knows it might end up as a small game =D
