For those of you that don't read my weblog daily (shame on you), here is a story that popped up about EA and the white collar slavery they got going on.

The Dark Side of Game Development - EA
The Dark Side of Game Development - EA
Crud, how do I do this again?
Well I am luckily just hobbyst programer but I have friend who works as 3D artist for one gamemaking company (they are sitting just around corner of my office)
They work like crazzy having worktime sometimes more than 12 ours per day. They are producing right now two games for one German publishing company. Their German partners change title and story line of product each 2-3 months changing specs for it too. Result is that poor dewelopers have to remodel, retexture, reanimate, recode it all around again and again. It is so unefective use of qualified workforce I newer seen before. And as much as I know theyr sallary is nothing great. They even don't have compenzations of extra worktime as much as I know. She spended whole summer in her office without hollydays. She is totaly frustrated.

12 hours a day isn't too bad, I've done that a few times in my job. It's the programmers who spend like 16 hours a day flat out because the publisher is breathing down your neck I feel sorry for. There's no need either, I recon most people lose any productivity after 11-13 hours. You simply cannot be arsed and work slows down, more errors etc. I'm keeping my hobby and my job seperate methinks
Bad management, but sadly not 'only' in the game industry.
