i imported a 3ds model of a gun i had just made and discovered that it had thrown the pieces all over the place. they weren't connected like they were in MAX. so i played around a little bit and discovered that if i connect all the pieces then they will be imported by irrlicht properly.
NOTE: this doen't help if the models have animation attatched. Only if it is used as a single-frame model.
I know for a fact that Connect works in MAX 6 & 7. I dont have any previous versions so if any one else does let us know if it does.
If you have this problem try this:
1. Select a piece of the model.
2. On the command panel, Select Create.
3. Next Choose Geometry.
4. Select Compound Objects from the drop-list.
5. Choose Connect from the avail. tools.
6. Use Pick Operand with Move Option Selected.
7. Choose pieces connected to the piece in step 1 to join them.
Repeat until all pieces, that can be, are joined.
NOTE: you should only connect pieces that are touching.
Now when you import them into irrlicht, the pieces that you connected should be attatched.
