My guess: This thread belongs to offtopic.

Machine: Mac Mini 2009 model: Core 2 Duo, 2GB Ram, 180 HDD.
Software: Irrlicht, own generic physics wrapper(supporting Bullet, Physx, Tokamak, and adding more), Own xml based scripting, own file format or B3D.
Tools: Blender, own export script for level info and mesh info.
IrrNaCl - Irrlicht Port for Google Chrome Native Client - Demo

Iyan 3D - Make your own 3d animation using your iOS Device

For software I also used Irrlicht + C::B in the past. But also using Visual Studio a lot by now (using more than one compiler is always good anyway - finds more problems). Personally I like Blender and Gimp, but couldn't persuade the artist I worked with to use those - he definitely prefered Maya and Photoshop.
Poser is not a good idea for games, as their license doesn't allow distributing the model as far as I know. For sound-processing Audacity is pretty great.

Hardware doesn't matter so much anyway, I've developed on a really ancient system until just a few months ago. On my new system now I cared mainly about a mixture of energy efficiency for still acceptable speed. So Intel i5-2500t, 8GB ram and GeForce GTX 550 Ti (graphic card using most of the power in my system, but was one of the lowest cards that had newest CUDA support).

is MakeHuman a good idea?

Post by Shah »

Just 2 hour ago, read MakeHuman Alpha 7 released. Great features (in todo lists also) Also, meshes made can be used in commercial games etc. So, to professional, Is using MH a good idea for a rookie?

No idea how MakeHuman works by now. In the past the problem for game-developers was that they used a hi-poly model which isn't suited for games. But maybe they added low-poly as well by now (they considered it once I think).

What I use: In general anything that has Linux and is post y2k. Nope, sorry I forgot about my Homebrew 6502, XD. But my main dev pc is a humble, aged Intel Core 2 Quad 2.4Ghz, 4Gb RAM and a Nvidia GTS250 and a secondary PC with a AMD 6950 GPU with several assorted HDD's and running Ubuntu 12.10. There's several more (headless) PC's too some better some worse, mostly scavenged dumpster rescues, doing some hacked/botched together Server stuff, I try to have them work most of the time... :P As for dev related software the major ones I use are Blender, Gimp, CodeBlocks and Audacity. Obviously there's also many little things. But then... there's the Linux CLI, by far the best thing among all other software! :D

I use an old Fujitsu notebook: C2D 2.1GHz, 4GB DDR2, 320GB HDD, 8400GS as my main machine.
My secondary machine is a dual core celeron netbook.
Also use a crappy Trust Flex tablet.

Software I use:
GIMP, UVUnwrap, Wings3D, Misfit Modeller (MS3D clone), MSVC++ express, C::B, Eclipse and mingw

See a lot of Maya users, actually paying ones I assume ?
Don't worry, I run an OS X VM myself.

My hardware?
Processor: Intel Pentium 4, 3.20GHz (hyperthreaded) (Two fans)
RAM: 1.5GB DDR2
HDD: 80GB 7200RPM
Graphics card: ASUS NVidia 7600 GT, 256MB GDDR3 (OpenGL 2.1.2)
//..//End of relevance

Software:
OS: Ubuntu 12.04 with a manually updated kernel (3.6.1 generic)
Compiler: GCC (g++)

Irrlicht version 1.7.3
GIMP 2.8
Blender 2.6.2
the default x-term terminal
Gedit

Misc.
A calculator (actually useful)
Extra cooling (Open computer case, open window (it is *cold* outside))
Pen and paper (useful for quickly writing up some pseudo code for something or for visualizing an array)
Music (helps me concentrate)
//..// This section isn't really relevant but yeah, it is here anyway, cutting it here because it would be spam to go any further.
