Differences in Physics Engines?

Post by LonnieTC »

Hello All,

I was just looking over the Irrlicht website and found what looks like 3 different physics engines (ODE, Tokamak, and Newton) but I am unclear as to which is better and why.

Could some one who has experience with these please tell me more?

Thanks for all of the help as I am learning very quickly on these matters.

Cheers,
Lonnie

- ODE: Fine engine, Windows and Linux support, a bit too unrealistic imo but fast
- Newton: By far the best imo, beats the concurrents but is still Windows only (a Linux and Mac version is coming within the next months!), it is slower than the others but also the most realistic one, definitely.
- Tomakak: Never used.

Thanks for the info.

As my project is based upon Linux platform I'll have to wait and try the Newton version for Linux when it is ready.

You could start with ODE because I think it'll take a while (according to this post: http://www.newtondynamics.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=745) :).
