Hi,
as one of those impatiently waiting for the Oculus Rift I just stumbled upon another VR headset on my (daily?) visit to a big german IT Newsticker (http://www.heise.de): Durovis Dive (http://www.durovis.com/index.html). It seems that it's mainly designed as a DIY device, but it seems that they are also planning a commercial version. This device works with an Android Phone / Tablet as display and head tracker, and I think it looks quite interesting. That's why I reserved one at once . What do you think about it?
Btw: seems like I have to get into Android programming now

Re: Virtual reality gaming on a smartphone
Definitely looks interesting - like a light version of the Oculus Rift
But I do wonder if smartphones can yet render side by side-view fast enough. Likely going to need that same 60fps as with the rift.

You certainly won't be able to get the same quality as with a PC , but it's yet another gimmick I want, and I certainly want to make something for it.
Btw: I'm currently working on a little multiplayer dogfight game (WW1 scenario) using HTML5 and JavaScript for the server, and I'm planning to do a client with Irrlicht as soon as I get the browser version finished. I think a game like this where the client has nothing to do but receive messages from the net and render a (fairly simple) scene could be a nice start for making games with this nice device.
