Hi
I have a background in software development. Just wanted to know if there are any christians on this forum ?
Or in fact anybody who believes in God ?
I ask because I want to know what the consensus is on christian games ?
Thanks
Cheers

Dieser alte Heilige hat in seinem Walde noch Nichts davon gehört, daß Gott tot ist!
While I am a strong atheist, for sure there are many God believers, including Christians. I think I even seen a religious game here on the forum, you would need to search.
I think such games maybe will not make a big commercial success, but for sure you could sell them in local church communities, especially if these games will be for minors.

Re: Jesus
I happen to be, but religion isn't the topic of this forum, so everything is generally peaceful here. That being the case, I'll PM you more on this instead of posting here.
Re: Jesus
I'm pretty certain Irrlicht is as suitable for christian games as it is for atheist ones :-)

No, but I like parts of religions - for example stuff like architecture of cathedrals and temples and much of the art inspired by religions - so who knows, it might inspire a good game as well. Probably as long as it doesn't come along too preachy.

Re: Jesus
Ok
Which country do you live in ? Also, what are your main objections to accepting Jesus Christ as saviour ?
Are you familiar with these animations ? : Concerning heaven, there is this link : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0lORR7BqXNk
Which is quite impressive.
In terms of bible animations there is Illumina Bible software. Samples can be seen here : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TnkruQLV ... C11E6E51FB
Thanks

Quantum1982, do you believe in Mary, mother of Jesus?
Oh yes indeed, places like Sistine Chapel are one of the most greatest art creations on our planet. The cathedrals, I remember when about two months ago I was in Vienna and saw St. Stephen's Cathedral. When I got inside I got stunned, never saw such amazing architectural building in my entire life.CuteAlien wrote:No, but I like parts of religions - for example stuff like architecture of cathedrals and temples and much of the art inspired by religions - so who knows, it might inspire a good game as well. Re: Jesus
I just think he wasn't/isn't, there isn't much more to it. In case it comforts you - neither do I think of anyone else as a savior. But I try not to judge people based on what they believe in but on what they make, what they do and how they act. Believing something is easy anyway - everyone can do that. But creating something... that is always hard and takes skill! That is why I'm fine with (nearly) anything people use as inspiration to create something cool. The results just matter more to me (although the way to get there might be interesting as well sometimes). And as mentioned above - a lot of good stuff was created with religious or spiritual motivation. Also a lot of bad stuff, but I also don't accept any religious excuses for people doing that.
So if you do a game - try to make the best game you can. If you take your inspirations from the bible - there is a lot in there that can make a good game. Lots of fighting, fantasy, otherworldly stuff, etc. Just don't make a game because you want to preach, because then it will probably just suck as a game. Don't forget you are making a game and you are trying to make your game rock. If you want to preach, then become a preacher, not a game programmer. Some artists get those priorities wrong and the results tend to be only amusing in an awkward/embarrassing way, thought sometimes there is still a market even for that (in case you don't care about pride in your work but more about the money).

Re: Jesus
Well said words CuteAlien, I agree to that.
I am an atheist, however I did read the bible. What I think, that the bible is a great book, but as a *philosophy book*. People are interpreting it in a way too much verbatim way, instead of interpreting it as a philosophy. "Jesus as a savior", in my opinion, should be interpreted rather as a something like "way of life, that will make you free". Jesus is rather a symbol, not an existing being. In my opinion, of course.
