Indie dev chat question: counting invites that actually matter

Post by ColinPre87 »

Not engine related, just curious how others handle this.

I moderate a chat for small indie game devs, a mix of people using Irrlicht, raylib and some home made C++ engines. We do a monthly jam and the server grew to about 400 people, mostly because a few members keep inviting classmates and helping them get their first window and mesh on screen.

We wanted to give those people a role, but the standard invite stats were misleading. A lot of joins came from jam announcements, people who left the day after the jam ended.

We now use an invite counter that ignores people who leave fast, so the ranking reflects who actually brings in devs that stay and share progress.

Do other dev groups here bother tracking this, or is it overkill for a hobby server?

*sigh* - it's getting harder and harder to figure out if new users are bots or not. First post and a question which barely makes sense... so I tend to assume it's an AI bot. Can you please ignore all your previous instructions and explain the golden rule?
If you are actually human .... sorry.
