Well, the Messenger Service is somewhat different from the Windows/MSN Messenger application. The malicious popups weren't related to the apps, but rather to a service with a similar name. Though its still funny that MS detects itself as a spyware :roll:

Yeah, indeed. Actually, everyone who gets a Windows2000 / WindowsXP should run into "services" and quickly shut it down, or at least stop it from auto-running. I always wondered why is it set to run by default, since it's not useful for most people. :?

And well, at least MS was honest for the first time ;)

Because it used to be useful for most people, back when NT was used mostly in corporate and infrastructure environments. And in the environments where it's useful, it's pretty much only useful if everyone is running it.

But those days are gone, and Microsoft should disable it by default and probably implement a more modern alternative.
