Feature Request...

Post by Dogs »

I dont see anyplace to post request for features..

I have been working with irrlicht for quite some time now and my project requires me to have very large watter planes..

I would love to use the water plane that uses the addhillplanemesh but its way to system demanding when the water plane gets very large..

I was wondering if maybe it would be posible to revamp a second waternode and maybe have it to where irrlicht can add animating effects to just plain textures...

This way I can use very large flat planes and just tile a simple water texture on it and then use the texture animation node to animate the texture to look like moving water...

Im not sure if this is allready posible but havent seen any info on this yet and ive read a lot of post in the forums..
I may have overlooked it if it has been done but if not i think would not only be a great way to create nice waterplanes but also would be nice to create waterfalls and other moving texture effects like maybe even blood flowing..

Thanks for any info on this..

I like the direct obj import to irrlicht request.
If it exists in the real world, it can be created in 3d

Sys specs:
AMD 3700+ 64 processor
1.0 gb ram
e-Geforce 6600 graphics 256 mb onboard ram

Ah, yes I should look into the sourceforge bugtracker more often.
BTW: didn't know that there can be materials in .obj files.
About the slow waterscenenode: I think I'll implement a version using shaders in one of the next versions.

Most obj files come with a mtl file for their materials. :)

I agree, it'd be nice if OBJ materials were supported. I'd implement it myself, but I don't really have any need. While I use OBJs all the time, I use OBJ2MIM to convert them to MIM and then load them into Irrlicht using my MIM loader.

sadly there are several softwares that dunnot export mtls with the obj, but is very useful. usually, the best bet though, tends to be allways have mtl, obj and texture in same folder...
amyway, any good export feature in tools, do support it.when an obj still does not show this way the texture, is a problem of syntax in the mtl file: look at the mtl which the destiny tool eats well, and just add that coma, or that whatever.
Finally making games again!
