treemagik

Arbaro
arbaro.sourceforge.net
both are tree makers. Arbaro can be configured for low pol trees, though is complex, i know howto.(so, its possible)

GOT IT TO WORK!
I have done it like this:
1. made a tree in treemagik, saved the media and .x file (if it ask you how to save the mesh: answer both with "1" )
2. downloaded a program called "LithUnwrap". you can find it here (rightclick/save as ..):
http://mitglied.lycos.de/animespy2003/d ... _setup.zip
3. downloaded meshviewer. you can find it here (rightclick/save as ..):
http://mitglied.lycos.de/animespy2003/d ... /mview.zip
note: can someone please mirror this files? i dont have much traffic or tripod will lock/bann my account
4. opened the .x exported mesh from treemagik in lithunwrap (file/model/open)
5. optimized the model (tools/optimize model) but you dont have to do it
6. saved the model (file/model/save) as text (but binary works too i guess)
7. opened the mesh in Mview (DirectX Meshviewer) and saved it as text.
8. loaded it in irrlicht (you dont have to set texture mapping). the textures have to be in the same folder as the meshfile.
9. ignore the errors in the console
this is my result:
http://mitglied.lycos.de/animespy2003/s ... emagik.JPG
im really happy
ps: does anyone know how to get rid of the black parts in the leave texture?

LOL
those files i uploaded long ago at Bal's site. those but also a load of very useful tools an really hard to find plugins , utilities...
Just people can go to second page of stcky TOOLS thread, allways-linked in my signature. The very first post of that 2nd page.
Bal, I am gonna put a direct link in my sig, as it's a set of tools constantly needed by people, and if a patient and dedicated user like gfx didnt see it, something i made wrong...maybe it's too buried, so I'll put an "tools depot" in my sig link, or something.
afe, colega, i think he means mirroring lithunwrap (btw that depot link i have is the latest 1.3) and mview, both uploaded to the bal space...now in my sig
Bal if u prefer it be only in sticky tools thread, tell me...
good job on gfx hunt of the workflow...

both seem to produce great trees...I only tested yet arbaro, and pretty happy with , but that tree magik looks cool, too.

i know that the tools were linked at the sticky thread somewhere at this forum, but i didnt find the thread (and too lazy to do a search ) ,so i uploaded the files at my crappy tripod account, but sorry for confusing you
i got the leaves transparent, but it still doesnt look right, here is the result:
the leaves are very bright, but only if the background is very bright, like if they were "added"
this way it looks right, but still too transparent. it looks like that because of a darker background, if it would be bright the leaves would look like in picture 1
i ripped the treemagik model apart in 2 separate files, so that i could make the leaves transparent. i really dont like it this way because its more work to do and requires more coding.
thank you so much vermeer for posting these 2 links!!! i searched a long time for tools like that, since iam a really bad tree modeller

actually I can model a tree with wings with muich more control, but these tools make life much easier
seems, in code you are using ADD mode, instead of standard texture.
the black baground removing:
- tga file. in Adobe or gimp select it with lasso or magic wand(faster) and a good threshold for antialiasing....
-save that selection as "channel"
-save the file as tga 32 bits.
u can do selectionms in more power ful ways...select by color...quick paint mask...feather selection ,etc...

Hm, strange... With TreeMagic I got for one .x tree 300-400 triangles, but my frame rating is going down from 60 to 9 FPS, when camera is near to the tree
Also leaf are displaced.
With arbaro tree generator got 2000-3000 vertices, but framerate is goof. I only cannot export textures with this tool - don't know why.

my framerate stays at 400fps (opengl) and the leafs are correctly displayed
@vermeer: how do you get the .tga files to work? mine wont work with alpha transparency. i loaded a leaf in gimp and deleted the black background, then saved it as .tga - but that doesnt seem to work! it has always black borders
