The guys who did Deus Ex Invisible War have made portions of their soundtrack available to download for free. It's located at www.deusex.com , under downloads, and then soundtrack.
I'm not sure as to whether it can be distributed freely from that point on (how would that work?). Anyway, I had the thought that, since I have no musical talent to contribute to my game, I could simply use music from wherever I wanted (legal sources of course), and just tell the people who download my game which songs I used, leaving it up to them to either obtain the music I orignally designated (legally), or insert their own soundtrack (which could be a cool feature anyway).
Anyway, thought someone may be interested in that soundtrack.
Free(?) ambient music.

cause not everyone here has got the time or the music skill to create it.
yup, Fruityloops, Rebirth, Reason and Recycle are all kick-butt apps for making music. Fruity is my favorite as well.

I've been looking for free music for use in games, so I'll make my first post here a useful one:
"open source audio" at archive.org looks good, and is mostly creative commons licenses.
http://www.archive.org/audio/collection ... urce_audio
I've heard of a half-finished game called Golgotha was released in to the public domain when crack.com went bankrupt. The textures are freely available at http://golgotha.sourceforge.net/ but I can't find the soundtrack anywhere on the web.
The other avenue I've been exploring is to loot aminet's /mods/ directory, it's always been the unwritten rule in the Amiga mod scene that you can use other people's music so long as you credit them, of course I wouldn't use a mod file without getting permission from the author first.
I'd really like to see some popular classical music recordings released in to the public domain, but there's not much chance of this happening since each member of the orchestra has to sign their rights away... Anyone know an orchestra who wouldn't mind strangling the golden goose for the good of all mankind?
