I found that about SOAR from VTerrain.org, however, it seems just another LOD implementation, like ROAM, etc. What are that advantages/disadvantages of this approach?

I've been looking around for different LOD techniques and tried a bunch of programs that uses them. In my opinon SOAR is the best I've seen so far. It's fast, even with really huge terrains, and unlike simple LOD techniques you won't see the terrain frazzle when you walk closer to it, This in combination with it's abillity to keep the horizon nice and smooth makes it quite nice indeed.

Another LOD that is popular is the ROAM algorithm, it gives a fairly good result too though I like the SOAR approach better. :)

Hopefully the Linux support is improved?

Is there a usable demo of the new large terrain?

Great job BTW!

Are you referring to the Irrlicht geomipmap or the SOAR?

Not sure - just remember reading that a new terrain implementation was added to 0.9.
