i want a mesh to fade out smooth. how can i do that?

without knowing what irrlicht already has to offer, I can suggest that you make your own custom mesh animator which will slowly reduce the mesh's alpha value over time.
a screen cap is worth 0x100000 DWORDS

Yes, there is a material that will set your mesh's transparency based on the vertex alpha value. The material is EMT_TRANSPARENT_VERTEX_ALPHA.
