The legal issues of the game

Post by Cristian »

I searched the web and found ... A LOT of cease and desist letters marked "NINTENDO", BUT 60% of them are against website uses (eg. in a pr0n site), and yet 40% are actually directed at fan games (eg. OOT 2D). Those were remakes, mine is NOT a remake. I'll go on with developping it (for now, cause in my country no one gives <<a damn 'bout anyting>>), but I will keep in mind the cases of shut down games. See U later!

As for the games that got a cease and desist, well...umm... I think they made themselev a little too much publicity (eg: OOT2D was almost a phenomena while Chrono Cross Ressurection (torn down by courtesy of Square Enix) aimed for E3) so it's undestandable why those had gone down.
Big companies s*ck! A great reason to keep fighting them back (Although I had an experience like this a few years ago when a company pulled out a game that had MY concepts in it (the PC was not mine, it was at my mom's job and it got shipped back to holland for "offensive content of files"), man life s*cks!)

Yeah fighting Square Enix or any other company like that is not wise. In fact its just dumb. Why not use creativity and come up with your own game that is based from one of those games but not a complete ripoff.

Not wise... but effective! :) Well now I can't just throw stuff away, but a little change here and there, and I might just avoid trouble and an army of lawers (actually one is enough) on my tail.

Good point Skater. Square-Enix, Nintendo, EA or whoever can not copyright a game style. So, you can freely make a game like Zelda. HOWEVER, you cannot use what is copyrighted - the title Zelda, or any character name from the Zelda world, or any other name from there either.
