lsass.exe is essential part of XP
Delete it and you have to install XP again.

It's likely that Isass (with capital i) is a trojan while lsass (=Lsass, starting with a lowercase L) is a system process, I've read it here: http://www.softwarepatch.com/tips/isass.html

you dont need lsass.exe to run windows xp ... i´ve deactivated the lsass.exe service in my system configuration on my second computer and it runs without problems ...

lsass.exe handles to logging in and out of users as well as some access rights management.

Use an online virus scanner to see if it has been spoofed. Trend Micro has a free scanner that I think is very good:

Should put something witty here I suppose.
