A Simple Question...(i guess)

Hi everybody,
i am a new in programming and i have one question that is not really connected to the irrlicht engine-

I just need to convert a wav file to mp3 format in my aplication, and i dont know how to do that! It is part of my school project.
I have to capture sound from the mic. and i can have an WAV file as an output.But how can i convert it to mp3?
Is there any simple way to do that? Im programming in visual c++.net

Can anybody help me?

check out audacity; it's free and it will let you save-convert to-from different audio formats:

or goldwave:
http://www.goldwave.com
professional audio editing tool at a low cost.

but if you need it free, audacity has amost the same features.
