what's the best map editor for Irrlicht?

Visual Editor? but I can't find its download!

It runs on Linux??

It's runs only on Windows. Closed source, but freeware. Maps are stored in xml file. Also you can use these maps in your own VC or DevCPP project using of vsloader libs.
Check my signs for features and development.

But I can't claim that it is the best map editor. VisualEditor is only one from these tools, which can help you to learn Irrlicht features and improve your speed in creating of maps, effects, collision and animation with Irrlicht animators.

can you also help me with the following question:?

I use 3ds max and draw several primitives, then export to a .3ds format file. I load it in irrlicht but those primitives can't display well, some faces of them are broken! I don't know why, Is it that I do some steps incorrectly or else?

I'm not a modeler, and can't answer you exactly. Why do you not try to export your model in .x format with panda exporter? You can post any screenshot and here many good modellers in this community. They can help you.

And what about other free level editors like Quark or Radiant for example? Can i use them for creating maps for Irlicht based game? Which map format supports Irlicht?- "only" *.bsp and *.xml?

You can also use .my3d file format to display correctly the mesh. And also md2 with Panda exporter!
BUT I dont undersand why .md2 models are weaving like water!!

Yes, you can use these great level editors. You must export your level like .bsp. Irrlicht can load .bsp format, but at now does not support all features like importing of md3 or other models, trigers.
Also ZDimitor created my3d format for Irrlicht and you can use Max or Giles for creating of lightmaped levels with soft shadows.

Irrlicht can import many formats - bsp, x, obj, 3ds, oct, csm, my3d, dmf, LMTS, Collada, md2, ms3d and others but you must choice which format is convenient for your purposes. Personally I like My3d for scenes and x for animated meshes. With XML you can create own format - see Murphy's MIM format, that is xml based.

Guess you did not check your normals, its almost always the solution in those cases.

Best or not the best editor is not the question. What ETCaptor did is kind of powerful metaeditor, so if you have a special editor for some file format use it and do only the final assembly for irrlicht in VE.

You can mix lots of file formats and add some irrlicht features easily. That is unique and makes your work considerably easier.

with Max? Man, don't be a stupid newbie. If you start learning 3D there is nothing worse than using commercial software. Its by far more money than knowledge oriented and their communities
are not very newbie friendly. Thats why you end up here. First you need to understand the factors a 3D-Model is built off, or you won't be able to handle any 3D software effectively.
I really recommend using Blender, even if you are desperate after the money. Its open-minded communities will help you learning much faster. And your knowledge is usable with any 3D-package afterwards.

As i am only willing to use Max if you beat or pay me well, I can only tell you how to import 3ds in Blender and solve the problem there.

1. Get Blender
2. Get this 3ds-importer: http://members.iinet.net.au/~cpbarton/i ... ort-3ds.py
3. Import model, select it , enter edit mode, push F9, look far right at the bottom window, there is a toggle which says "display normals". The direction they point to is outside.

Blender runs very slowly! and some time it response delay a few seconds! I don't think it's a good modeler

you're not using or you don't have gl acceleration enabled. Blender is one of the fastest 3d apps I've ever seen!

One more post like that from you Micheal520 and you will be on my ignore list.

At first you post the same question over and over again in several forumparts, then you ignore ppls advice and refuse to learn the basics before you tackle advanced stuff.

Just because you got some commercial copies "really cheap" does not make you smarter at all. On the contrary. See, wether you are using a free or a commercial does not really matter. Its your ability that does. So learn the basics and stop triple or quadruple posting.
