wow, insulting open source when ur a registered user of an open source project. Interesting
You do a lot of programming? Really? I try to get some in, but the debugging keeps me pretty busy.

Blender is a 3d package. It has become that. The only complete one for free. And sincerelly, is quite good. I prefer Wings for modeling, but they are giving you bones and weights , animation, and whole load of highend features for free...
Besides, curiously now Blender can count on more export plugins for game engines than many highend packages(with the exception of Max and some other). Which I find curious.

I totally agree with my dear friend Vermeer. Blender has become an amazing full-blown of features 3d package. It's got modeling tools that I haven't even found in commercial 3d apps; once you get used to its interface and modify it according to your needs you'll be creating stuff in no time. Add yafray to all this and you'll have renders that look totally professional. And yup, it's the first and only free application that I've seen that does modeling, texturing, rendering, animation, rigging, and even post-production. The perfect tool for any indie team without a budget. And Blender's future has got some interesting surprises coming ahead.
Have you even taken the time to chek blender's gallery?

I think what sucks is something totally different.....

i prefer other tools for organic modeling because blender is still limited to triangles and quads and i couldn't get used to that but the animation features of the upcoming blender 2.4 are great! i don't need anything else for my models. animating in blender is nicer now than in most very expensive commercial tools.
i find blender's interface nice too. there are some inconsistencies but i like the "easy/efficient to use is more important than easy to learn" approach.

oh come on guys... you seriosly try to tell him that blender is great?
you do as if there is any need to do. of course its great. one of the best. and most likely the best 4 free.
...if you aren't too lazy to read some tutorials. and i guess the guy starting the topic is one of those lazy ones.
like afecelis said. art speaks for itself. and blender is capable of almost anything related to grafic, not to mention blender+yafray.
somewhere here in the forum there is a user... and i really like his avatar. the nice smily's holding a manual in his hand and barking something about "rtfm"..
.enough (very)smalltalk
well blender rox after all.
good night to almost all of you =)
ps: never ever dare to insult blender again unless you actually WORKED with it.
//... i need to calm down... *breathing calm* *thinking calm*..... i must not harm idiots... *staying cool*

well, there are yet some lacks: smooth groups (hard edges like in Wings or Maya.In Max and Milkshape is called smoothgroups) , etc, and multiple Uvs, both quite impotant for games. I do come with worrkarounds, but it's never as good as to have them.
But even so, it has a huge bunch of advantages.
I have handled dozens of 3d packages, so I can compare.
Specially for character animation , in latest 2.40.
I'd prefer to have Mirai for free, but hey.
Also a Jaguar in my door.

I wouldn't go as far as to say "it sucks" myself. Especially if I had nothing better to offer.
On the other hand, the user interface for Blender is less than intuitve and lacks several features that many artists have come to take for granted.
And the development community (as opposed to the artist community) is quite elitist. Which is funny given the code quality (or lack thereof) in several places throughout the code-base. That is not to say that they haven't made some important innovations (SDNA is pretty cool), but I have seen many people suggest features / improvements only to be smacked down (hard) by the developers.
Irrlicht (while smaller) has a much more flexible community and Niko is much better at handling suggestions / bug fixes (he is merging new features from Spintz's port for example). A good developer (or development team) knows when they can do better and can handle when others point that out.

that's no good argument. most 3d applications don't work well in low resolutions. if you are serious about being a 3d-artist a big monitor or maybe even two monitors are a must.
applications like maya or max are very wasteful with gui space and even more bloated than blender. you can't really work with them under 1280x1024.
an advantage of blender is that most parts of the gui are scaleable since they get drawn with opengl. you can also do a lot with disabled button panels.
