What do you use for meshes?

Post by krama757 »

Greetings,

I am trying to make a simple game with an animated mesh file. I have made a model in blender and have tried repeatedly to export to the .X format (after using the mindfloaters exporter) but to no avail.

What do you guys use to make your animated meshes? Nothing in the tools/faq forum helps with blender.

I am wondering if there is a different format I can use that supports both textures and animation that irrlicht supports? And can I use a free tool to make it?

Thank you.

I've had quite a bit of success with blender->.X and irrlicht. I have sample blender files and irrlicht models at http://www.s-fonline.com/webhosting/dhenton9000

Works quite well. What kind of problems are you having with the exporter script?

Sometimes the model exports fine but the bones come out on the floor (while the model is standing upright).

Other times I cant export the model at all.

What settings do you use and which exporter script do you use to export correctly to irrlicht?

are you making certain that the origin of the bones and the origin of the model are the same? Also, applying (CTRL-A) size and rotation?

I don't export the skinmesh header, and I set the frame rate off, so that it comes out as frame position.

Dhent, can you link me to your exporter so I can make sure we are on the same page?

http://development.mindfloaters.de/Dire ... d.8.0.html,

It should be the 1.3.2 version from Jox, a mod to one by Ben Omari

Yep we use the same one. I cant get my mesh to export.

Check out my mesh at:

If you have the time can you tell me what I am doing wrong?

I took a look at the mesh, and this is what I did to get it to work. Not all of these steps are really required.

1) converted animation to strip in NLA CKEY
2) deleted all extra armatures
3) unparented mesh and armature.003
4) rotated mesh and armature 90 so that the head is up in the Z direction
5) used ctrl-A on both mesh and armature to apply and finalize rotations
6) parented mesh to armature
7) exported mesh, selecting export animations and not selecting skin mesh header

it runs like a champ!

I can post the blender file if you'd like

I've got it working in the irrlicht mesh viewer, is it not moving or whats the problem you are seeing?
