Freeworld3D 2.0 Released

Freeworld3D 2.0 has just been released with an array of new features, including: Undo/Redo system, 10x faster terrain editing, 10x faster terrain painting, up to 50x faster lightmap generation, over 9 3D model formats supported, real-time water rendering and much more.

Freeworld3D is an all purpose terrain editor, scene editor and world editor all in one. Edit and paint terrain in real-time with ease. Load and place meshes into the scene, transforming them using a 3d gizmo like most popular 3d modelling packages. Terrain editing has never been easier.

Well Irrlicht's geomipmapping code was taken directly from my Freeworld3D SDK. Spintz simply adapted my code to work with Irrlicht. So yes, you can load the terrain directly into Irrlicht.

As for other support, Irrlicht supports the Direct .X mesh format and Freeworld can load that in as well. Irrlicht supports skyboxes and so does Freeworld.

So yes, you can load all the data from Freeworld direclty into Irrlicht, and its much easier than loading the data or writing a loader for Gile[s] or even Cartography shop.

The IrrSpintz example - TexutreSplatTerrain, uses data exported from Freeworld3D

Hi, Correct my if im wrong,

FREEWORLD is a good apps, I downloaded the FREEWORLD demo,
and since we cannot save a file from the demo version,
I cannot tell if file can be loaded easisy directly to irrlicht.

"I think the only thing I can do is to place the object from
the terrain. which is I believe achieveable from the irrlicht
user world editor project."


I thinks, Captor's "VSEDITOR" and other project "IRRSED" - OPEN SOURCE
can be much more useful than freeworld, since it is specifically
written for irrlicht engine, any object support by irrlicht
can be directly loaded from this project. including lightmaps
supported format. hehe, including scenenodes properties.
can be customized from this world editor project.

Actually Freeworld lets you do a lot more than place objects in the scene. Read the features page on the website and check out the documentation. You can also create entities, skydomes, skyboxes, skyplanes, setup water with reflections, paint the terrain in real-time, edit the terrain in real-time, generate MESH SHADOWS on the terrain, and much more. Its not just for placing meshes.

And if you want to look at the file format, go to the "Docs" directory in the installation folder and look at the "Export Sample.zip", it contains an exported project in ASCII. You can also export the same thing to XML.

Ok Soconne at least your thingy is moderately priced. But: As you have it save disabled please tell us exactly how to get the following effects ported to Irrlicht:

water reflections
lightmaps (in and out, cause i simply assume the quality will not be sufficient)
third: LIGHTMAPS

How comes that your x format supports what nobody here could accomplish?
Just tell us some step by step instructions to get that thing working with Irrlicht.

Having it save disabled is a good thing as this does not seduce any people lacking of money to throw away.

Do you really think that Mete Ciragan could live on Milkshape in expensive Switzerland if he did decide to distribute save disabled Milkshape copies ?

Just think of how you could get people hooked, nobody here wants to spend his money because of some warm words.

So, step-by-step instruction concerning Irrlicht integration and no nice sounding water bubbles please.

Freeworld is cool, but i cannot find it useful for irrlicht
probably @ the moment, I guess. I try to load a X mesh file from
other directory and the textures did not load.

Like WHAT "DELED Lite MODELER" it's free even on commercial, you can actually create a huge MAP with LIGHTMAP & TRANSPARENCY too. and importing from DELED is not a big deal it load all even multiple textures.
And IBUZZO created a LOADER for irrlicht. you can load a "DMF" format "DIRECTLY" to irrlicht without the hassle of file conversion.

above running on irrlicht like :

I was able to write a loader for the XML output in 30 minutes. I am able to load the XML file easily using the irrlicht engine. It is pretty nice and really easy to use. If you are having trouble loading terrain from a file you may need to spend some more time on the tutorials. Another good site to help you learn to program is Nehe.

I use irrlicht and irrXML.

Sorry, I'm not referring to XML stuff, I can also code to load an XML file,
Im refering to to the output file of FREEWORLD wheather
it's own file format, ASCII or XML file, a sample that can
be loaded easily on irrlicht.

Just like "DMF","MD2","BSP" Etc.. loader "Its not XML."
or like captors "VSEDITOR" it includes a loader.

Since u can write a an XML loader in 30 mins, Maybe u can write
a loader for FREEWORLD output file and show it to us,
that will be great. :lol:
