Is there any way of importing/meshing a Doom3 .map file - as they have stopped creating .bsp due to people readily copying and claiming it as their own

How do i mesh a Doom3 .map file?
the .map file format structure is very similar to quake3's; hence you can use Radiant for level editing for both; but what would be the point of importing a .map file? Irrlicht doesn't even load Q3 map files; it loads the bsp with lightmaps and optimized geometry info.
