Irrlicht on a Mini-Linux Live CD?

I had a look at Damn Small Linux again and was really surprised how this project had matured. They now have a smart plugin system which lets you decide which apps you want on board. Its dead easy to customize and even has an nvidia driver plugin. It also runs Blender, there is already a module for 2.23 dynamic and 2.36 static.

Where do people see a useful purpose of beeing able to run IRRLICHT apps on a 50 meg
bizcard Linux?

One idea i had was selfbooting games or demos. Any other ideas?

One of those spy type things where you put the disc in and then it shows a 3d computer chip with different colored layers and it rotates around and then the layers go apart showing more detail.

Some people never stop bashing the guest account here, saying that guests tend to spam a lot. How comes that i feel different?

Just being registered doesn't keep evilminded people from killing some threads. I never talked to this person and i really wonder why he did that.

he just gave an idea how you could do a cool live-cd with 3D interface - if your english sucks that bad that you cant understand what he is saying than dont complain about him but rather shut up!

and NO, an irrlicht-live cd is a real bad idea, why do people always want to "irrlicht" everything? someday we all have irrlicht computers, special irrlicht-mc-donalds, Firefox: Irrlicht Edition (with extra buggy 3D interface!!), Windows Irrlicht XP (folder-culling support of course! and real-time file-deletion! NEW feature: kill your files! get it now for only 99,99$ - limited, first come, first served!)

ps: you are wrong, the guest account is JustPlainStupid - if its one thing i could do with this forum then i would kick out the guest account.

that maize posted 3 times the same thing is not his fault but the crappy sourceforge server, because that stupid thing always lags and is slow as hell.

I would just stick the SDK on the CD so that new programmers can have a look at it.

I personally don't think an Irrlicht LiveLinux CD would be "the bomb" as Irrlicht is not the BEST engine out there (it's pretty good, and the license is better than most, but it is NOT the most capable or most advanced).

HOWEVER, a 3D Engine LiveLinux CD with Irrlicht, Nebula Engine (version 1), CrystalSpace, OGRE, etc (i.e. all the 'major' open-source 3D engine's) with development environments and supportinig tools (such as Blender, Wings, GIMP, Quark, etc) would be very cool.

@GFX - I don't think the guest account is a bad thing. Yes, some stupid comments & questions come from it but then again - registering doesn't seem to stop them much either. Not every guest account is out to be an idiot and not everyone thinks Irrlicht is as immature as you seem to think it is either.

selfbooting games and demos are a pretty neat idea but there are two pretty big drawbacks. first up, graphics drivers. if damn small linux doesn't have the drivers, ogl will be in software mode and run terribly slow. secondly, it's no good as resume material because you're ruling out office/college pc's that boot from hard disk and have a password protected bios.
also there's the fact that people just hate rebooting. if you were to give me such a cd I would probably check it out next reboot, which will hopefully sometime in february.

If you are not interested why do you post? You did not even read my threadstart, as i said clearly there is a driver for ndivia. It is especially for DSL and works straight out of the box.
Just load additional module for XFree86 and the driver, adapt .xserverrc and XF86Config-4,
restart X and bang: 3D-acceleration. Beware of the kernel version dependency built-in by ndivia: The driver works with kernel version 2.4.32 so for example with DSL 0.91. For DSL 2.0 someone still has to compile, repack and publish it.

Its ok with ndivia drivers only, cause competitors have bad OGL support. Actually, I only wanted to know wether its worth to document my tinkering or not. Guess, thats clear now.

I don't know why there should be more rebooting with a Live-CD then with a HD-install.
I would reboot if i had the impression that i caught a virus or something cause it saves me from searching for the thing. Cause you divided data and system properly your OS is absolutely invulnerable. Thats a huge advantage and much better for my nerves. Surf without sorrows, whats wrong with it?

Apart from that DSL is customizable. Just make your changes, load additional progs, even Debian packs work, start a script called mkmydsl and roll your own iso. Its the best OS for me, just like Irrlicht is the best engine for me. Stuff that is easy enough to handle, without killing your creativity with too much system hassles.

Adapt it to your likes and cast it back into a CD. That's the way, ahah ahah, I like it...

And I agree with Gaz a ton. I restart my computer every couple of months and it only turns off if the power goes out. Why would I want to mess around with live cd's anyway?
