Little help.. (Confused)

Post by Mr. Confused »

Hello, I am very interested in learning Visual Basics/C++ But no clue where to start. I have read tons of tutorials that i have found in various places online and none of them seem to help me. I read somewhere not to long ago that the best thing to do when you first start out is programming games like tetris ect.
I am interested (someday) in creating a game but i need some pointers on where to start/what to do.
I have downloaded Dev C++ & Visual Basics but no clue where to go from there..

If someone could point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.

You can e-mail me at Coyote_tls@yahoo.com
Thanks.
Yours, Mr. Confused.

Keep on doing what you're doing. Read tutorials and practice (it's not enough to simply read).

Then make games. Even simpler text-based games are a great start.

Some useful tutorials you can find here:
http://www.cplusplus.com - for newbies.
http://www.programmersheaven.com - a lot of source code to
But as you already said that you read tons of tutorials my opinion is:
-grab a highschool book of C++ an learn the basics, maybe thats way you dont understand many of online tutorials. But be patient, you wont understand C++/Basic in 1 day. Also avoid titorials like "C++ in 20 days".
Also you can hangaround on www.gamedev.net on the beginers forum.

Good Luck.

I teach a class in VB.net using a textbook by Diane Zak. Its a college level class and the textbook starts from ground zero and then some. Theres a web site with files and you walk through the book step by step.

She has one for C++ as well.

Thanks for all the help, but im still a bit confused.. what is the difference between C++, Visual Basics, & Win32? What should i learn first, and should i learn C before C++?

I have had no experience in any of this, still even trying to figure out what it what and why...

I have read tutorals that said "download Dev C++" I did, and it does not tell you what to do next or why.

I have also read tutorials that say to download Visual Basics, which i also did and they do not explain the next steps (If they do its just the tiptop of it)..

Thanks..

Well...like I told you, grab a highschool C++ book. Or a newbie book to understand this. The diference between C++ and Basic is that they are different languages. Also I recomand you to start with C++ because is more powerfull than others.
If you learn C++ from an tutorial you can use any C++ compiler like :
DevC++, Microsoft C++ etc.

You are posting to the wrong forum. Try a newbie programmer forum.

But is better to take a programmer course where a teacher can answer all your questions.
