Can someone tell me about a good free terrain maker?

Hey does anyone here know of an easy free terrain creator that exports into .3ds? It would be nice if the software could place objects down example:trees, and apply textures etc. thankyou

Geomorph seems to be a good height map creator but it is not what I am looking for. Geomorpgh seems to be a great tool for creating heightmaps but I am looking for a terrain editer in which I can put down things like trees and water, and then export into .3ds format or a format that irrlicht can read. Geomorpgh is not what i am looking for because it cannot place objects into the terrain.

Any other suggestions?

You are looking not terrain editor,but scene editor. Terrain editor creates/edits only terrain.For scene editor search forum and you can find some projects. For terrain creating try http://www.world-machine.com/ Its realy good and free for not commercial projects,alows up to 512*512 .bmp heightmaps exports.

i search for scene editor with the search function:
334 pages found, but i noticed the search engine looked for scene and after, looked for editor.
so the string "scene editor" is split before searched, this make too many results.
is there another way in order the search function to not split the request i submit

Yes. Try "scene AND editor".
