Please Test My Ken On Steroids 2 Game

Post by kburkhart84 »

This game is a lot like my first Ken On Steroids. It is an asteroids clone, but done with nice 3d graphics with Irrlicht. I've used Irrlicht's particle system to get the nice explosions. I'm going to post a fix to a bug in Irrlicht's particle generation code when I do it. In my game, the bug is apparent. The ship emits particles at a random angle less than 30 degrees, but it only works if it is not points down the z axis. This is because of the code Irrlicht uses to rotate the velocity vector of new particles as they are emitted. It rotates twice, I think once on XY, then once on YZ. The problem is that the actual Z is never affected because of gimbal lock. So if the ship points down the z axis, either positive or negative, the partcles never get rotated. When they are pointing at a different angle, the particles spread out as they should. Anyway, Please test my game. My website is http://kburkhart.the-bns.com/Please post any comments, flames, thoughts, whatever, I'm glad to here them.

I would think it would work on 98 or 2000 as well. It uses DX9 for sound and input, but I understood that DX9 works on 98 too. I guess I could be wrong... What error does it give you??

Yep, even with good texture filtering, that much of a difference can cause that look. I don't have access to good backgrounds in higher resolutions, but they could easily be replaced if I did.

It's part of the particles-spintz.patch which also adds some more particle effects to Irrlicht. Note that you have to add some files to your project/makefile.
