Yes the northeast has a good, but still small amount of developers near the Boston area. Personally, I'd like to see the industry grow more in the area, I lived there most of my life. I came out to CA for more job oppertunities, warmth, and hot/cooler chicks.
Irrational Games
Turbine (already mentioned)
Mad Doc
Harmonix
Helixe (GBA developer)
"Atari" (in quotes cause the Atari of today is not the same Atari of old, belive they have a dev studio in the area)
Stainless Steel Studios
actually here's a list: http://www.bostonpostmortem.org/bostongamedev.htm

Iron Lore is near Bosten, MA, there's a few others up in the Northeast too, Rockstar has offices in NY. Check the Gamasutra job postings and www.gamejobs.com. I've seen a couple of game companies in PA post jobs in the past couple of months.
Well, I figure since the larger portion of the gaming industry is out here in california, I have a better chance at getting a job. Although, there seems to be more competition out here, since I've had some interviews but no takers yet. There have been far more compatible job postings for me out here, too, than there have been out in Boston anyway. I'm still trying to remain optimistic about it all... I'd really like to get back working again, its fun...
the girls are pretty decent looking (though the ones in San Fran are _evil_), though I think East Coast girls are more cool.
147-2: thre are plenty of game industry jobs in San Diego if you're in the cell phone game biz-- thats where Qualcomm HQ is located
fret: we ought to meet sometime when I visit LA again (usually every other weekend. I live an hour away-- in Fullerton)

a screen cap is worth 0x100000 DWORDS
Hey! my girlfriend is from SF!!! Now that I think about it... you're right!!! haha, just kidding...
Turns out, I have an interview this week... so I'm pretty confident that there deffinately are more oppertunities here. Also, if I don't have a job by then, I'm going to the GDC in San Jose in March. I'm volunteering to work there in exchange for a free pass, its a lot of fun, I've done it twice before in 97 and 98 before I got into the industry, plus they have a job fair there, and its a good oppertunity to network and meet people. Its not as flashy as E3, but it caters to developers, and not the press, so there are lots of informational seminars and such.
keless: sounds cool to me, I'm pretty much around when ever... it'd be a lot easier though if my car hadn't been stolen back in Dec. though...(subaru wrx, man i miss it) But, I have a bike to get around... heh

yeh boston looks hot...
yeh seems like these sort of companies gravitate where there are really good CS schools (boston has MIT, CA has berkeley and caltech)
so it sorta surprises me there arent any in pittsburgh or philly(CMU and drexel are nearby respectively)
hell i even WENT to drexel....
ah well, i did find like two around philly in a lot of googling, called both, emailed resumes, no response....
strike 3, im out.
ah well, maybe if i FINISH fmorg and make it actually playable i will have something more to impress them with...
we shall see. all the same, i always have really wanted to roll my own game company, but i figured i have to work up to that, maybe i can take advantage of the comparative lack of local competition and snatch up some really good local people. need the startup $$ first tho, and with my $40k in college debt that money is not exectly forthcoming hehe

Hey Buhatkj, just a little friendly advice from my game employment search experience.
1.) Don't call them unless they tell you to.
2.) Sometimes it takes more than a month for them contact you after you email them your resume.
3.) Include a kick ass cover letter when applying because that is the main thing they read, but don't make it too long i.e. no life stories.
