If you had ever cared to read the manual that came with your monitor or had stayed awake in computer class in the 6th grade then you would know the proper way to rest your eyes.

1. Take an eye break 10mins of every hour by closing your eyes and staring as far as you can into the distant blackness.

2. Never have light reflecting off your screen

3. Always have a well lit room without light shining you directly into your eyes.

As a few more notes personally i make sure to look at sunlight at least once a day if there is any. take breaks from the computer make exuses to not look at the screen.

As far as blindness goes thats all my advice as for hand and musle disorders you're supposed to do the steaple exorcise making a bridge with your fingers to stretch them out and ALWAYS try to keep your fingers straight... bending your hands and stressing them is the cause of hand and musle disorder.

There ya go no more headaches or illness caused by computers.. simple you would think... see you in the future

by closing your eyes and staring as far as you can into the distant blackness.
to expand on this, taken from several optometry sites.
In this eye relaxing exercise, they will visualise a distant scene in their mind, and thus learn to release the focus and feel relaxed.

1. Sit comfortably in a quiet room. Close your eyes and think of a familiar distant scene.

2. Try to imagine details like colours, textures and weather so that the image becomes vivid.

3. Observe the horizon. Notice the size, shape and movement of distant objects.

4. Feel the warmth of the sun. Feel how relaxed your eyes are.

5. Holding that eye position, open your eyes. The most distant objects around you should be in focus and clear immediately.

Repeat step 1 - 5 another three to five times.
Doesn't do a thing for me, but if it helps someone all's good I guess.
