Real time strategy game framework

Post by esaptonor »

I am relatively new to irrlicht, and i have decided to make a basic real time strategy game to see what i can do. So far i have only made a basic map editor, but i am unsure how to proceed onto the game. I know that a badly designed framework for a game does not end up so well, but i have never made a large game, only small games made in flash, so my question is, how should i be structering my game?
I looked at irrWizard, but it seemed to be focussed of first person shooting games, and i wasn't sure if that kind of framework would be best for me.
All ideas or comments welcome,

I think if you choose the 'core' option, then Irrwizard will be perfect for your RTS game project.

The idea with the 'core' option is that there isn't any genre specific code.
It still looks a little like a FPS game, but thats only beacuse of the standard FPS camera and Quake 3 map.

You can easily swap them out for a terrain map and RTS camera.
