I think MEPIS LINUX is the best. It has great interface, nice selection of programs ( developer included ) and a great debian-like update manager where you can also install thousands of binary packages just by checking the box and clicking download. It is aimed more at the home user or developer rather than an administrator, but with add-ons it can be greatly extended. Best of all, aside from being free, MEPIS fits onto only one CD. Although I still am a windows freak, my second computer has MEPIS, and it has never crashed on me even once!

Linux Distributions
I'd vote for Ubuntu even though I'm not a fanatic.
I'm just thankful to this distribution because it helped me a lot when I wanted to discover Linux world and now I'm just feeling good with a lot of distros (Debian, Fedora, Mandriva...).

You may be a victim of software counterfeiting".
It's only going to get worse with Vista. No thanks.

Linux - Confusing, Confusing, Has problems with my Music CDs, does not seem to support my Modem...
I have recently discovered that both the Flu and my Algebra teacher have exact the same effect on my health: it quickly degrades.

I prefer Linux Mint (based on Ubuntu). It's 100 times better than ubuntu, everything works for me, even my webcam, pad and other devices that wouldn't run on other distros without spending a day on configuring.
Also, I very like FreeBSD and OpenBSD for server.
About Windows, I do not understand you all.
"I am windows user, linux suxor! / I am linux user, windows suxor!"
I think GNU/Linux based systems are excellent for home computers: watch movies, listen to music, download something from net, etc.
Windows is better for games, I also prefer it as my workstation (never seen better IDE than VisualStudio).
Windows vs GNU/Linux is stupid war.
