Sure I'll be a Guinea Pig, err tester

Some screen shots

FPS was 348

FPS was 530

FPS 343

FPS 459

Issues:

1.)Textures on the walls of the canyon disappear when pointing the camera at a downward angle.

2.)In the building that you can enter that has works of art on the walls, the room that contains the mona lisa has something that resembles a bed, if you approach the bed you fall through the floor.

Side notes:

 You have setup a really nice demo!

Rig specs:

Athlon 64 X2 4400+
2GB memory
Geforce 6800GT
system-independent, adj.:
Works equally poorly on all systems.

Hello Chieh,

i also have had some problems  , with the version " Windows ". The textures of the trees do not appear. The FPS in my computer is 29, it is clear since an AMD ATHLON xp is a 2000 - 1.67 GHz, 512 MB RAM. The videocard is " RAGE 128 PRO Ultra GL AGP. It does not give for any more  .

yay a playable version of iamar!

It's looking pretty nice :D

One thing i noticed was that when you walk into the part with buildings from the little brick corridor near where you start. As you cross the boundary it gets brighter, and when you cross back into the corridor it goes darker again, maybe there's a light getting turned on at that point. Also when you cross the boundary the screen jerks a bit, it's as if the buildings are being dropped into place from a height, very quickly...

Keep up the good work dude :D

Mostly between 40-50 FPS. 100 FPS when looking up to the sky. Somewhat below 40 FPS in the house. Runs smoothly everythere.

Linux 2.6.17.11
AMD Athlon XP 2600+ clocked at [ 1533.677 MHz ]
nVidia NV44A [GeForce 6200] X.Org 7.1.1
512 MB Memory

good feedback

Post by juliusctw »

thanks to everybody for the feedback

let me answers some of the problems people are having, there are initially 9 zones, and each Giant Gate will lead to futures ones. Each zone is itself a separate mesh, to conserve fps, i only display the current zone while setting other zones invisible.

when you go through the tunnel to another zone, i reset the gravity, lighting, and setFarValue,

so when you are in the tunnel, the light seems different, i think the glitch is caused due to the gravity shift, the gravity is zero everywhere except the place you are standing, when you enter a zone from the tunnel, i quickly change the gravity from the tunnel to the zone. This wasn't a big deal in linux, but its very obvious in windows, Not sure how to solve it.

i also distinguish indoor and outdoor, non of the mesh are drawn when you are outdoor, and when you are indoor, setFarValue is decreased drmatically.

so if you are falling through the bed, i probably forgot to set collision.

I'm not sure why the tree texture doesn't show up, it doesn't either on my windows computer, but in linux its beautiful

ahhhh i hate windows,

in the next demo, it'll be 3rd person with the mesh i recently drawn
here's a picture of my most recent mesh.

The trees displayed properly for me, they had the same texture on them as they had in the demo program from the guy who made the trees.

i'm gonna do away with the tree

Post by juliusctw »

ok too much problems with the trees, they are too expensive to create an entire forest.

i guess i'll just use billboards, unless there are some people with low poly mesh tree

Yep that glitch has been fixed. I wonder though if there's anyway to do the light on/off bit better... For now it's not a problem, but for the finished game it'd be nice if it could be turned on and off without the user noticing, maybe if you turned it on when they went into the brick corridor from the start point.

Also, i went into the first building on the right, which has a bar in it, and the glasses on the bar were hovering above it instead of resting on it and there was no collision on the bar so i fell through it heh.

Hi there,
i tested your level with:

gentoo Linux 2.6.15
Pentium Mobile 1.8 GHz
ATI FireG T2
1 GB RAM

and got from 60 to 120 FPS. :)
I got a few problems with box textures. If i was too close, the texture turned into black. But this might be a problem of the ati drivers and dynamic lightning...

P.S.: How did you get irrlicht to statically compile? I got tons of errors last time i tried.

hello

Post by juliusctw »

i went through irrlicht's errors one by one and solved all of them.... i'm kinda curious if the team compiled it in linux before releasing cus there are some obvious bugs.

But if you can get gentoo to compile, irrlicht is nothing compare to the hell i had compiling gentoo. Gentoo was my favorite distribution, but i use archlinux now.

as for the lighting, i could make it less obvious in the finish product, the thing with texture turn black, i have no clue why.
