zelda camera?

Post by Guest »

hi im just wondering if its possible and if any1s done a camera like in ocarina of time and majoras mask, where left/right moves you towards the left/right of the screen, up moves you forward and down turns you around instantly and moves you into the cam, and when you're running it follows you as though stuck to you by a rope, curving and stuff?

Actually, making some sort of rope to do it wouldn't be a bad idea. Make a cylinder with very few segments and always have one side on the character while the other side is on the camera, make it invisible and if it collides with anything, make it move until it isn't colliding anymore. Then you just have to make the character movement. I have no clue how you would code it but that is a pretty good idea of how to do it.

actually, thats a lot of additional work thats not really neccesary.

instead, you merely need to think of the camera as a seperate entity, not explicitly tied to the player, but who's goal is to be looking at the player all the time.

by limiting how quickly it can turn left or right, or move forward, and how anal it will be about having the player in dead center or not, it will end up having the 'slugish' or 'rope' effect.
