FPP or TPP better?

Post by dawasw »

I wonder all the time what do you guys prefer most when playing games.

You like fpp games or tpp games ?

And why one are better and other are worse ? (pros and cons pls)

I'm still not sure about my project; I cannot decide what view mode would be best for a game, because I love two of them.

In FPP everything seems to be realistic and on the other hand in TPP you have all the time your character visible on screen; what do you think guys ?

WoW gameplay is better than gameplay in Tes III: Morrowind or Oblivion ?

(I'm not talking about whole gameplay and different game types, I would like to talk only about view perspective)

you mean FPS? and TP=third person...something?

I love FPS games all the way. Axonometric-view games (diablo-like) are not my type. I know many of the best RPG games ever made are viewed this way but I like to be in charge of the 3d action from a first person POV.

I love both, FPS and thirt Person.
Consider Gothic 2 and morrowind,,,, both best games I have ever played.
But those two view princips are each about somethin' defferent. Also have you ever player Blade of Darkness? That game broke my opinion about 3rd person camera "unactionality" I had. And then came Gothic 2. I also have played a cool 3rd person game called Shadowman. From 3rd person view, I think, one can have a better view at the enviroment around him, while FPS is not that about, it gives you beter action, if you consider shooting... but more reality is in 3rd person. But I have never played Morrowind in 3rd person mode..... I think dawasw, you should make your RPG 3rd person
what is this thing...

Hmm I'm still confused what to use.

As Afecelis said true is that FPP is best for shooting/action also for physics interaction. But you really cannot see everything what is taking place around you, you can't see your character.
That would be quite easy (as I have irrlicht & newton controller already done for player in FPP mode) for shooting and such.

On the other hand needforhint I agree that world looks much better when in 3rd person, you can see a lot, you see your character all the time and sense everything around you - that is good.
But now how I would make shooting in 3rd person with a bow ? Hmm I guess everything 'WoW like' wouldn't really be a game, because in WoW u only use 1,2,3,4... keys for skills and nothing else - game does everything 'for you'. (it is like reading a book lol - but a damn good book)
Also I have no idea if physics would be quite acceptable in 3rd person, hmm I never saw a game with a good physics in 3rd person (WoW doesnt have any dynamic physics - same for every mmo game I saw in past few years)

Hmm it is still hard to decide.

PS Gothic was quite a good game, but after few days of playing it was not interesting anymore for me - and well in my opinion the controls were terrible. Especially the whole inventory etc. (no mouse in steering omg!)
And I have seen best 3rd person cameras in Guild Wars and WoW so far, but I guess for mmo 3rd person is the best way to notice players around and such, and I want a single player game.

I will wait for some more comments on that ;)

I have decided to use both finally.

Game will be playable in FPP (first person) as default.

But 3rd person camera also will be possible. You will be avaible to switch between 1st and 3rd person cameras. (and gameplay will a little differ when in 3rd person)

Thanks for advices ;) :D

Lol yeah you are right. That is very unrealistic in 3rd person camera.

The problem is you also need to have quite good fov when you want to use FPP perspective in a realistic way.

depends on the genre i spose, but when it comes to walking around on the ground i prefer fps
i reckon the biggest advantage in making a fps game is not having to animate your main character! your fps camera can climb a wall, take a seat, swim, do a bunjee jump or whatever else comes to mind without needing an army of animators
