youtube home for irrlicht videos

Post by veegun »

Wuz up fellow irr-mates! I've just created a group on youtube for irrlicht:

http://www.youtube.com/group/irrlicht

It's a protected group at the moment. So you guys will need approval from yours truely before you can join the group. This is to keep the spammers out. :)

The intent of the group is for anyone interested in irrlicht to post their videos and stuff on youtube. Which isn't a bad place to stick your videos on. There is a 100 MB limit and 10 minute restriction. The preferred method is MPEG4 format but takes AVI, MPG, and MOV format as well. That's not bad compared to other sites like rapidshare which requires you to wait in line and clicking through several pages of stuff. With a broadband connect, you can watch videos on youtube with little to no delay.

So, come join! I'm currently encoding the irrlicht tutorials into a video format to put on youtube to kick things off. BTW, if you search for irrlicht on either youtube or google videos there are some video content there already...a bit, not a lot at the moment.

See ya!

UPDATE:

I just finished uploading the first video! It took me a while to find the right tool/codec then many trial & error later to produce a version that youtube likes. :( Piss me a new one...had no idea it would be this difficult.

The end result is okay on my PC. But once it's on youtube, the quality of the video suffered immensely. On my PC, you can read the text on the upper left-hand corner of the video. You cannot on the youtube converted version.

Anyway, it's a start.

I must admit that I thought "What should all this be good for" at first, but having demos of all these extensions and apps is really useful. Thumb up!

Yo, hybrid. Thanks for the comment/feedback. I think it taps into the huge visitor base of youtube. This allows visibility to irrlicht and its projects (and to some extent, its authors). Therefore, more people will know about irrlicht and what it can do.

Behind the Scene

The making of "x4861's Alpha Foundation chapter 1" youtube video

... nearly destroyed my computer. It weighed in at 2GB on the initial capture. Windows movie maker choked and died trying to convert it into a proper AVI format. Luckily, the converted file still worked. The divx converter didn't have much trouble though (what a champ). The movie ended up with a running time of 5 minutes and only 44 MB. But I goofed and uploaded the wrong vid to youtube. Which it shows:

Status: Rejected (duplicate upload)

Yeah, yeah, I'm a moron! The upload took ages (my upload speed is like 128 kbps or something). So, I left it uploading overnight and went to bed. But all this trouble is well worth it once I saw the end result. This vid is now the longest running vid so far.

Until next time, I'm looking forward to youtubing more projects! I've already compiled a list of projects to be youtubed. Again, if you guys have any suggestion, please let me know.

I've created a new playlist:

http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p ... 56902ED2D8

I may break up the example vids into it's own playlist in the future but for now every video (32 total) I've uploaded is on the playlist. Enjoy!

WOW!
Why'd you do all that work?
Wonderful...

According to Worst Coder's worthless and irrelevant opinion, it's a great idea. :)

Wow, must have taken forever to make all those videos. It's a very nice way to get a quick overview of some of the stuff available for Irrlicht. Good job man!
I made that demo. No offense taken though, it's not much of a demo anyway. Just fix it when you have time.

TheWorstCoderEver --> Nah, your opinion counts with me!

Klasker --> Doh! I knew it. Sorry, sorry! I shall fix it and some other errors in the next youtube-upload-a-thon.

I for one believe that I can program games... (I have problems...)
Anyway, tell me, when you started this, how many cans of soda did you consume?

Keep up the great work... :D

I don't drink soda (yes, I'm a wacko). What sustain me through it all is pure adrenaline like an athlete who's into his/her game (or a gamer who's addicted to a particular game) or someone who obsesses over art. It's all a natural high. Of course, too much of that and you could fall into a vegetative state (some would argue that that in-of-itself would be another form of high...but usually it's not the person who's in the vegetative state making the argument...hmmm, I wonder why? ).
