OK, i'm starting to think we have a real problem with flaming in the beginner's forum at least.
the putpose of the damn thing is to be a place for people to ask newb questions. if all that is gonna happen there is people are gonna flame them for being newbs, then that's not a very compassionate attitude, and we are becoming a community with some pretty serious anger issues.
i mean, correct me if i'm off base here, but the way i see it if you didnt wanna help cuz it was a dumb question the correct action is to NOT REPLY. if the newb is motivated enough they will figure it out on their own.
i dont think there is any excuse to flame somebody on that forum, ever. if you can't handle a couple newb questions, the way i see it you have no business replying to beginner's forum posts.

Flaming has been removed and admins are always keeping an eye on these things. So I don't think that we really have a problem here.
Furthermore you should already know that it is sometimes quite annoying and a real hard job to please those noobs. In this case (the very beginning of the very old thread pulled up by you) there was some help, but also awkward noob's attitude and complaints. And simply ignoring these posts is not correct, people should know that this is not the right way. One simply cannot post 'I can't do it, so make it for. Now.'
And (regarding one of your last postings in the thread) by working for tech support you might see this from a wrong view. This is not business to customer relations, this is Open source development or (for the beginners forum) quite often some advice on correct behavior or learning experience. And from my several years experience in teaching CS students I am pretty sure that such straight posts are required from time to time.

fair enough i guess
alright dude, you are right, it's not your job. still though i think you'd agree it's important to make the effort to try and have patience with people. I just was a bit put off by the tone of the people in that thread, and was frustrated that i had searched on a dozen different search terms and couldn't find what i needed, all i could seem to find was people being impatient with others.
sorry i dug that one up.

I agree that if people won´t have the patience to help out newbies then they'd better save the air and not post attacking them. Sooner or later someone will help out or they'll find the answer by searching the forums. But newbies are our main concern as we are well known as a friendly community specially with beginners so we always try to lend them a hand to get them up and running with the engine. Not only does flaming occur in the begginers' section but also in most of our forums, so whenever we see things are really getting out of hand we try to cool things down and try to get people back on topic. After that it´s a matter of sending a PM to the user ,and finally if he insists on being a pain we got no other option than removing him.
We try to keep a firm but friendly arm.
And motivate respect in all ways.
We try to keep a firm but friendly arm.
