buying software...

Post by bitplane »

been buying software for work over the weekend, I had to get my hands on a java decompiler and a diff tool for quick comparison of directory structures.
DJ Java Decompiler got me by the proverbial balls since it stopped working after a couple of hours, half way through browsing the first jar file, so I wouldn't recommend it even though I bought it myself.
The diff tool is another story though, I liked "Beyond Compare" so much that I bought it just 4 days into the 30 day trial :D
So, whats the most recent software (not including games) you've bought, and was it worth the money?
Or is buying propietry software against your religion? ;)

I brought vue 3 from an issue of 3D world for £25. Not something I'd normally buy, but I saw the special offer and I've found use for it in all fields (even game dev  ) (note - REALLLYYYY old, but I don't buy often  )

other than that, its all open source (cheap me :D )

latest software I got and found useful paying for it:

-Ac3d 6.0 upgrade.
-Silo 3d (I know, I know;some will say it's prolly a waste of money since it's almost the same as wings3d, but version 2.0 comes with lots of improvements, and you get the upgrade for free); it's a very powerful modeler as it is now.
-3d world studio: now that Irrlicht supports b3d, comes in real handy.
-Blitz3d: now that Irrlicht supports b3d, I think I won't need it anymore, hehehehe
-Deled Pro.

Software I'd like to get but need to save some bigger bucks for it:
-Softimage foundation.
-Messiah studio http://www.projectmessiah.com/
-Sketchup pro; although I don't like the UI very much, seems like a cool tool for architects. The other thing I don't know is if Google sketchup is enough, specially now that Blender imports/exports its files.

But I'm more than happy with what I got :D
Regarding to programming tools, the only one I purchased was MSVC 7 standard edition, and MSVC6 standard before it.

You do a lot of programming? Really? I try to get some in, but the debugging keeps me pretty busy.
