terrain grid deformation

Post by Joey »

Hi,

1. what ive got is a scenenode wich holds a grid (x by y) tiles/rects with same size and different textures(coordinates). now i want to add a little 3d - hills and rivers. since the grid tiles are very large deforming the height of some tiles may really look ugly. so what to do? increase the grid resolution? or add just new vertices on the fly for each tile that is hit by the terraforming mouse cursor? i currently only can think of these two options. is there possibly sth. better? since there will be a lot of flat terrain i guess ill stick to option 2.

2. the terrain needs to be "smooth" no edges etc. sth like a cosine (0,2pi) rotated about its center (y(x)=cos(x) rotatet around axis x(y)=pi) bumped into the grid.

actually i can say i want sth. similar to the c&c generals map editor.

greetz Joey
