Skyboxes? Clear some confusion...

I was trying to add a skybox, quake style.. using shaders... it didnt work correctly so i figure irrlicht cant use shaders? So, i searched these forums, and read you need 6 images for a skybox? Well, that would mean instead of using the q3 map editor to do the texturing do it by code? But then... how? how can i put my sky inside of a room? can someone please explain how to do this and how skyboxes in irrlicht work? thanks... (btw, dont gimmie no code cause im using game maker irrlicht dll)
