my first Irrlicht game [finished]

Post by Brainsaw »

Hello,

quite a time has passed since I downloaded the Irrlicht engine, but now I finally got the time and motivation and all that stuff to start a little game, just to get used to Irrlicht and ODE and all that stuff. You can download it at:

http://www.bulletbyte.de/download/marbles.zip

It is some kind of a "marble madness" inspired game. It started programming it two weeks ago, using Irrlicht and ODE and all the tutorials enabled me to progress quite fast. The game is controlled using the mouse:

- no button pushed: rotate the marble
- left button pushed: focus the next checkpoint
- right button pushed: use the mouse to adjust the camera

As you might see from the levels I am not an artist - at least not graphically  . It would be nice to get some comments about it (I know there is still a lot to do - make a nice main menu, add some levels and so on).[/url]

If you could sort out the lighting on the ball so it's not so ugly and the ball actually sat on top of the surfaces rather than.. not then it would be a pretty good first attempt!

Congrats on completing your first game though, a lot of people never get there so well done.

It's not yet finished, but I hope I will get it done during the next week. Especially have to do some levels (don't like to do that  ), But it's definitely fun to play (OK, it's my game so I have to say that  )

Hi,

I'm back again. I declare this game as finished. Took me a bit longer than expected (as always in software development  ), but now it's done. I added a new main menu, some additional levels, more sound and a "challenge" mode where you fight against a predefined level time or the best time yet achieved. I hope you like the game, I'll see what I'll do next.

Oops ... just realized that on my webspace there were both the new and the old version. I'm just not used to the case sensitivity of LINUX servers ... now you'll get the *real* final version from the link in my first post.
