Time to give back something to the community!!!

Post by afecelis »

Ok guys!!!

Since I'm so grateful for all your help and I still haven't gotten permission to use the textures from the level I created (skybox author already did), I'm uploading a modified version of the specialfx tutorial which clarified a ton of stuff to me about textures, animators, models, dynamic lights, etc etc etc. It's basically my first Quiz in Irrlicht engine. The only thing I didn't include was the water effect, but WASD navigation is also there. Source included. Hope you find it useful.

WARNING!!!

The code is commented in extreme newbie terms, so programmers don't laugh. This is newbie oriented stuff!!! h ehe he he he

use WASD to move the camera and Alt+F4 to quit

File:

download it fast cause my space is getting full and I'll have to "flush" it!!!!

Very cool! Thanks! :D

Cool demo with cool effects! :)

But it's slow... It run at 7 fps (really more if I go out of the room and don't look it)...
I suppose that it is because of all the effects and the shadows...
But surely it is only because my computer is slow.

Also thanks for the source, it is very well done and easy to understand.
I don't think that anybody will laugh at you. :wink:

Very good,
Water is almost ready if you only include water and stone textures
:wink:
Slow frame rate is going mainly from shadow effects.

ok guys, thanks for the comments. I had forgotten about lower spec systems, sorry for that guys. No wonder they say you should develop your stuff in a not-so-fast machine for testing purposes. I'm getting 135 fps constant and assumed that was standard. I'll keep that in mind from now on.

on the other hand, I was very excited with my image as sotm so I felt like I had to give something in return. If Niko gave us a whole engine for free why not give a bit of lines of code? he he hehe e

ps. If someone uncomments the water part in the code and getsit to work please tell me how they fixed it. (code)

@Unarekin: thnx for mirroring the file

cheers!

ps2. I just noticed the link to the screenshot was wrong. Just corrected it.

afecelis,
I wonder, whet is diffucult for you with water code - you have it in your demo..
ok

Code: Select all

        scene::IAnimatedMesh* mesh =   smgr->addHillPlaneMesh("myHill",
               core::dimension2d<f32>(20,20),
		core::dimension2d<s32>(40,40), 0, 0,
		core::dimension2d<f32>(0,0),
		core::dimension2d<f32>(10,10));
               scene::ISceneNode* waternode =0;
	waternode = smgr->addWaterSurfaceSceneNode(mesh->getMesh(0), 3.0f, 300.0f, 30.0f);

	waternode->setPosition(core::vector3df(0,7,0));
	waternode->setMaterialTexture(0,	driver->getTexture("./data/water.jpg"));
	waternode->setMaterialTexture(1,	driver->getTexture("./data/stones.jpg"));

	waternode->setMaterialType(video::EMT_TRANSPARENT_REFLECTION_2_LAYER);

I perceive, that you have not been sleeping whole night :P
